The chart above displays the total inmate population in Franklin County, along with the total count of COVID-19 cases.
Early during the pandemic, both in national and in local news, there were stories published reporting the decision of some Ohio counties to release nonviolent and low-risk inmates in response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases. This tool tracked the total inmate population and total COVID-19 cases in Franklin County, Ohio to try and see what, if any, impact COVID-19 appeared to have.
The inmate population data was scraped from the Franklin County Sheriff's Booking website, and as a result may not be a wholly accurate representation of prison population. The COVID-19 data was provided by the state of Ohio, and is available directly here as a CSV file , the link to which can be found on the same page as the Ohio Department of Health's Cronoavirus Dashboard .
This tool stopped checking for new data on November 19, 2020.
The Ohio Department of Health released new COVID-19 data every day at 2:00 PM EST. This website updated daily at 2:15 AM, 8:15 AM, 2:15 PM, and 8:15 PM in order to (hopefully) always have the most recent COVID-19 data, and to have up-to-date inmate populations.
Unfortunately there wasn't one easy place to gather all of the data used by this tool.
All of the code for this website, and the library which processes the data it consumes is available under The Unlicense on Github .
